Can you do Hindi with him today?

It was a question that came up often between my husband and me. Helping with Hindi meant being completely present. You could not supervise from across the room. You had to sit beside your child, listen as they worked through passages, explain unfamiliar words, test vocabulary, synonyms and opposites, answer questions, and encourage them to keep going.

Some evenings one of us managed a good session. Other evenings, after every subject and a late dinner, there was simply no energy left. I realised Hindi was not difficult because children were unwilling to learn. It was difficult because it depended on another person's time.

The हिंदी Lab was built to give children a way to continue independently: meanings when they needed them, vocabulary they could revisit, and practice they could begin from their own dashboard. So when my husband or I did sit with them, our time could be spent encouraging them, rather than trying to get through everything alone.
